"The train entered (the station) at the regular speed. That's the part where the accident happens, the mystery or the responsibility. We don't know what happened in the last 40 meters. The operator was at his post and the train did not stop," Schiavi said.

The accident's cause has not been determined and "investigative tasks are being conducted", Transporte de Buenos Aires, or TBA, which operates the train service, said in a statement.

Railway union leaders said the train involved in the accident was a 40-year-old or 50-year-old unit, adding that Argentina's railroad system was antiquated and lacked investment and maintenance.

he 22 year-old UC Irvine student entered the contest as "Miss Hoag Hospital" because she works at the Orange County medical center as an intern, where she's putting her experience toward a medical school application.

Here's hoping she follows in the footsteps of last year's Miss California, who won the top prize at the 2011 Miss USA contest. Of course, getting into medical school is no mean feat, either.

Bungee jumper plunges into crocodile-infested Zambezi river after cord snaps

A New Year's Eve thrill-seeker had the shock of her life last week during a bungee jump at Victoria Falls bridge.

22-year-old Erin Langworthy leapt off the 111-meter bridge attached to a bungee cord, the Sydney Morning Herald reports, however she did not spring back up as planned.

The 22-year-old told how her feet were still tied together as she fell head first into the fast-flowing rapids beneath the world's largest waterfall.
Miss Langworthy said she feared for her life but managed to survive after swimming to a nearby bank on the side of the river.
She said: 'It went black straight away and I felt like I'd been slapped all over.

According to the Associated Press, Langworthy swam to the Zimbabwe bank. When she was pulled from the water, the young woman began coughing up water and blood.

Liverpool were embroiled in a fresh racism controversy night, after the Oldham Athletic defender Tom Adeyemi alleged that he was racially abused twice by a supporter during an FA Cup tie at Anfield.

11 killed as hot-air balloon crashes, catches fire in New Zealand

ALL 11 people aboard a hot-air balloon which crashed in a ball of flames in New Zealand today have been killed, police and medical officials say. Police confirmed there were "multiple deaths'', and a local district health board spokeswoman Jill.
Police confirmed there were “multiple deaths” when the balloon crashed.

Witnesses told local media of seeing 32-foot (10-meter) high flames rising from the balloon’s basket before it plummeted to the ground.

“I was watering the garden and heard a noise, the noise of the gas to raise the balloon. I looked over and I couldn’t believe it — one side of the basket was on fire,” said local resident David McKinlay.
"The power went out at our place in Carterton," said local Bella Biggs.

"They hit a power pole. Power has only just come back on."
Police received the first report of the tragic accident slightly before 7:30am this morning. All emergency services are in attendance.

Police say they have no details yet of what caused the early morning crash in clear, bright conditions with minimal wind. The region is well known for its hot air ballooning.

High School Hockey Player Paralyzed By Illegal Hit

The neurosurgeon who operated on Minnesota high school hockey player Jack Jablonski, who was paralyzed when he crashed head first into the boards during a game last week, confirmed Thursday that the 16-year-old will never walk again and is "very unlikely" to regain movement in his arms from the elbows down.
As the 16-year-old Benilde student skated after a puck, he was pursued by a pair of skaters from Wayzata. The first hit him between the shoulder blades and the second pushed him against the boards.

"His face slammed against the boards and his body was straight up and down," Benilde's junior varsity coach Chris McGowan said.Jablonski was hurt on a hit from behind in the third period of a junior varsity game between Benilde-St. Margaret's and Wayzata during a holiday tournament. While skating after the puck, Jablonski was hit by two players, according to JV coach Chris McGowan.

"His face slammed against the boards and his body was straight up and down," McGowan said after the game.

Texas School Shooting: Brownsville Police Shot And Killed Armed Middle School Student

Brownsville police Detective J.J. Trevino said police received a call at about 8 a.m. that there was someone with a weapon at Cummings Middle School. Police found the 15-year-old student with a handgun in a hallway and shot him, Trevino said.

Cameron County Justice of the Peace Kip V. Johnson Hodge told The Brownsville Herald the student died.Trevino said the school was immediately placed on lockdown, and that no one else was injured.

A school administrator apparently noticed the student carrying the gun and called Brownsville and school district police, Trevino said. He said investigators hadn't determined whether the student fired any shots, and he said he had no information on why the student might have had the gun on him.A school district spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to phone messages from The Associated Press, and calls to the school rang unanswered.

Brownsville is 280 miles south of San Antonio on the southern tip of Texas.

The 2012 Sugar Bowl between Michigan and Virginia Tech was broadcast on ESPN and featured Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge up in the announcer's booth and Holly Rowe reporting from down on the sideline. Following the Wolverine's first BCS Bowl win since 2000, Rowe showed her colleagues that a network doesn't become known as the "Worldwide Leader" in anything without using some strong-arm tactics.

In the video above, another journalist seems to have beaten Rowe to Hoke's side after the victorious first-year coach shook hands with Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer. So what did Rowe do? TMZ broke the story ... cops were called to Lindsay's house after the man knocked on her front door, demanding to speak to the actress.

Lindsay refused to open the door. Cops showed up soon after and handcuffed the guy. He's still in custody.

Bob Anderson Dead: Sword-Master, Darth Vader Fighter Dies At 89

Olympic fencer and movie sword master Bob Anderson appeared in some of film's most famous dueling scenes – though few viewers knew it.

Anderson, who has died at age 89, donned Darth Vader's black helmet and fought light saber battles in two of the three original "Star Wars" films, "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."

Vader, "Star Wars'" intergalactic arch-villain, was voiced by James Earl Jones and played by six foot six (1.98 meter) former weightlifter David Prowse, but Anderson stepped in during the key fight scenes.

"David Prowse wasn't very good with a sword and Bob couldn't get him to do the moves," said Anderson's former assistant, Leon Hill. "Fortunately Bob could just don the costume and do it himself."

The scenes worked beautifully, although Anderson, then nearing 60, was several inches shorter than Prowse.

Few knew of Anderson's role until Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, said in a 1983 interview that "Bob Anderson was the man who actually did Vader's fighting."
He went on to become one of the industry's most sought after stunt performers, fight choreographers and sword masters, working on movies including the James Bond adventures "From Russia With Love" and "Die Another Day"; fantasy "The Princess Bride"; Banderas action romps "The Mask of Zorro" and "The Legend of Zorro"; and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
Fencing academy president Philip Bruce said Anderson was "truly one of our greatest fencing masters and a world-class film fight director and choreographe.
